We had the honour of producing the Trophée du Meilleur Plat d’Alsace for the first edition of this competition. For the occasion, we paid tribute to the Alsace region through a reinterpretation of the region’s heritage.
We’ve chosen this trophy to celebrate Alsatian craftsmanship. It combines materials that are emblematic of the region, such as wood, leather, stoneware and kelsch.
We have covered the surface of the trophy with a wood and leather marquetry pattern. This reinterprets the half-timbered architecture of the Alsace region.
One side features the symbols of the half-timbered architecture: rhombus, Saint Andrew’s cross, curved chairs, tree of life. In counterpoint, on the other three sides, the design gradually breaks away from traditional codes in a playful way.
The gilded brass base on the outside reveals its Vosges sandstone blocks on the inside. The heart of the trophy is a tribute to gastronomy, with a white kelsch fabric. We pleated this fabric to evoke the famous chef’s hat.
This competition, organised by Les Étoiles d’Alsace, was held at the CHR trade fair at the Parc expo in Colmar. Anthony Giry of Restaurant Le Cheval Blanc** won the trophy.
For this project, Atelier Reverdie’s creative studio produced an artistic study that was submitted to the Étoiles d’Alsace. The proposed design immediately appealed to the teams from this federation of starred and gourmet restaurants in the region.
We used one of our workshop’s rare skills to create this trophy: multi-material marquetry. Around 200 pieces of leather and wood were cut by hand, assembled and glued to create the inlaid surface.
